Private Lessons

Private lessons are an excellent way to learn any instrument. The one-on-one instruction allows students to set their own goals and allows for instructors to focus on the student's skill development in a way that is not possible in a classroom setting. The student and teacher really have the opportunity to work as a team to develop student confidence and learning goals on their instruments.

Students will learn proper technique, theory, ear training, sight reading, and classical repetoire in addition to selecting music of their choice.

Ally Oakes Strings offers 30 and 60 minute lessons on violin viola, cello, and bass. I generally recommend that students start out with 30 minute lessons as beginners.

Enrollment for new students is year round!

Private lessons include:

  • Instructions for students as young as 5 with no age limit for adults!

  • Comprehensive curriculum

  • Flexible instruction times and days with lessons available during the day, evenings, and weekends.

  • Recital and performance opportunities

Practice

Practice happens at home, not during lessons.

Practice is an integral part of taking private lessons. A large part of playing an instrument is muscle memory and if students are not reinforcing the skills in lessons at home, it is difficult to develop that muscle memory. Students are encouraged to develop strong practice habits at home to be successful in their instrument.

Private Lesson Studio Policy

Below is my Private Lesson Studio Policy for every student. I will have a paper copy for review at each student's first lesson. It must be read and the signature page must be signed by the start of the following lesson.
